Know when your tax due is

The IRS Form 2290 for Heavy Vehicle Use Taxe (HVUT) must be filed annually.The Heavy Vehicle Use Tax (HVUT) period for form 2290 begins on July 1 of the current year and ends on June 30 of the following year. For vehicles that are in use at the beginning of the tax period, 2290 filing deadline is August 31. Taxes on the full tax period must be filed and paid in advance.

Form 2290 Due Dates for the 2018-19 Tax Year

The IRS Form 2290 for Heavy Vehicle Use Taxes (HVUT) must be filed annually. Every August 31st for each taxable vehicle that is used on public highways during the current tax period. The current tax period for heavy vehicles begins on July 1, 2018 and ends on June 30, 2019. Form 2290 must also be filed once a vehicle is placed in service. The due date for each month is the last day of the following month.

Form 2290 Due Dates

Form 2290 must be filed for the month the taxable vehicle is first used on public highways during the current period. The current period begins July 01, 2018, and ends June 30, 2019. Form 2290 must be filed by the last day of the month following the month of first use (as shown in the chart below).

The due date for a partial period return depends on the month you first use your vehicle. If you place an additional taxable truck on the road during any month other than July, you are liable for 2290 taxes on it, but only for the months during which it was in service. You must file Form 2290 for these trucks by the last day of the month following the month the vehicle was first used on public highways.

Any time you purchase and register a new vehicle of 55,000 pounds or more, your Form 2290 Tax must be filed by the end of the month following the month that vehicle is first used on public highways.
